Celtic closing in on securing Tierney as Valle set for quick exit to Italy

KT closing in on return, but when exactly remains to be seen as Alex Valle looks like he’s swapping Celtic for Italian side Como. Must have been the Dingwall weather…

Fabrizio Romano update

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano last night teased the Celtic supporters with a post on X which eluded that a deal to bring back fans favourite Kieran Tierney was close to completion.

According to Romano a deal is imminent, but whether it’s a pre-contract agreement with or without a short term loan or a straight out buy remains to be seen.

Smart money on a pre-contact deal

The smart money would be on a pre-contact deal with an agreement being struck to get the Scotland international on loan until the end of the season, and with Alex Valle rumoured to be departing for Italy, that looks like the most likely scenario. Apparently Como and Barcelona are close to a deal for Valle who will accordingly be re-called by Barca before joining the Italian outfit.

KT is due a substantial sum on his salary for the remainder of his contract at Arsenal so a deal will need to be struck that pleases all parties.  Will Arsenal want to retain the Scotland left-back who has started to get some minutes or will they prefer to save some money with Celtic chipping in to reduce their financial obligation to KT?

One thing that’s certain is that we will be pulling off a master stoke in bringing KT back to Celtic Park.

At 27 he’s still very much in his prime, and he’ll be a much better and improved player for his time in England, and not forgetting his spell in La Liga with Real Sociedad last season.

Yes he has his injury concerns, but getting a player of KT’s calibre in the prime of his career will be seen as a massive coup.

As things stand there are doubts about Valle, KT and also Greg Taylor in the left-back position at Celtic, Brendan Rodgers will be looking for clarity and hopefully that ends up with both KT and Greg Taylor signing deals at the club.

Fingers crossed.

  1. Pretty sure no left back is leaving before Young Boys. UCL squads set in stone for last two games. Tierney ineligible.
