Celtic First Team coach Gavin Strachan has rejected approaches from Shrewsbury Town to become their manager in favour of remaining with the Scottish Champions. Strachan is reportedly excited by the prospect of working with incoming boss Brendan Rodgers.
Strachan, along with John Kennedy, were wanted to follow Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur; however, the highly rated pair will remain in Glasgow and work with the Irishman. According to The Sun, Strachan was wanted for the EFL League One vacancy.
Strachan, whose dad Gordon was Celtic manager between 2005-2009, rejected the lucrative offer from Shrewsbury as he wants to work with the incoming manager. This is a decision that will likely go down well with the Celtic team, who rate Strachan highly on the training ground.
Rodgers’ appointment is a coup for the club, despite the ill feeling that remains given the way that Rodgers departed in February 2019. Hopefully, the fact that Strachan and Kennedy are remaining – along with Stevie Woods and Harry Kewell – will maintain the standards of the last two years amongst the squad. That being said, the standards will be high with the arrival of Rodgers, who imposed a rigid stance on professionalism when he arrived in 2016.
I will put my hand up and say i was one of the many who were to say the least critical of gavin during lenny’s tenure but he proved me wrong and is an extremely important part of our coaching team.
