Celtic competing with Brentford to sign English Championship youngster

Celtic are reportedly competing with Premier League side Brentford for the signing of Jack Grieves from Watford. The Championship side have offered Grieves a new contract but he is tempted by the opportunities that have presented themselves both in London and in Glasgow’s East End.

According to Football League World, the forward is weighing up his future as he considers whether to remain at Vicarage Road or seek pastures new.

Grieves made an appearance on the bench for the first team in the 2021/22 season, at home against Everton. Into the following 2022/23 campaign, he featured regularly for the Watford Under-21s and made his league debut against Blackpool, whilst making another appearance against Stoke City on the final day of the season.

The report suggests that the youngster may be tempted to the Scottish Champions given the route to the first team that could be on offer, if he makes his mark. Celtic would only need to pay a compensation fee to The Hornets in order to claim his services.

Grieves would be an Academy prospect but would take inspiration from Bosum Lawal, Ben Summers and Rocco Vata, who are recent graduates to make the grade and feature in the first team. If Grieves wants examples of longevity coming through from the Academy to first team, he needs to only look at Callum McGregor and James Forrest.
