Celtic confirm signing of versatile Jeffrey Schlupp

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Jeffrey Schlupp on a loan deal from Crystal Palace. The Ghanaian International moves to Glasgow’s East End on a loan deal until the end of the season as he offers versatility to Celtic’s left side.

After Alex Valle was recalled by Barcelona, Celtic saw their efforts to sign Kieran Tierney, before he joins the club in the summer, blocked by Mikel Arteta. Schlupp has previously been linked with Celtic and offers cover predominantly at left back.

Schlupp honed his craft at Leicester City, climbing through the ranks to play a pivotal role in their incredible Premier League title win in 2016, alongside Celtic’s No.1, Kasper Schmeichel. Making 123 league appearances and netting 10 goals for the Foxes, he proved to be a dependable and versatile asset, operating at full-back, on the wing, and in midfield. That adaptability could make him an appealing option for Celtic, particularly if they struggle to find a replacement for Kyogo. Such a move would likely see Daizen Maeda shift into a central role, with Schlupp providing much-needed cover down the left flank.

Since joining Crystal Palace in 2017, Schlupp has amassed over 220 appearances and 18 goals, becoming a trusted figure under both Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira. However, with Oliver Glasner seemingly not factoring him into his plans, the Ghanaian international could be eyeing a fresh start—especially with his contract set to expire this summer.

It appears that Celtic have not added any other players which seems to indicate that Daizen will play through the middle and Schlupp will support both left wing and left back.
