Celtic continue pursuit of Starfelt as Postecoglou seeks Ajer resolution, according to report

Celtic will continue their pursuits of Carl Starfelt and Brandon Soppy ahead of the European Qualifier against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday 20th. According to The Daily Record’s Michael Gannon, Ange Postecoglou is pressing ahead with the plans to recruit after a slow start on the transfer front.

The 26-year-old Rubin Kazan defender is being pursued but talks slowed last week as Celtic sought clarity over the situation of Kris Ajer. Starfelt played a half in a pre-season friendly but talks are believed to have cooled as Celtic and Kazan were apart in terms of their valuation of the Sweden International, with the Parkhead side looking to buy him for £4m. If no deal is forthcoming, the club will turn their attentions to Mario Vuskovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Ben Davies.

Celtic target Brandon Soppy could be available for over £4m.

The manager also wants to add Brandon Soppy and Gannon’s report says that the club will ramp up their pursuit of the player that appears to be available for £4.2m. With a year left on his contract, the 19-year-old has rejected an extension meaning that he will almost certainly be sold this summer.

Meanwhile, the report continues that the Celtic manager is hopeful that there will be a resolution to the Kris Ajer situation. The 23-year-old is actively seeking a transfer from the club but so far approaches from Bayer Leverkusen, Norwich and Brentford have all been rebuffed as Celtic look to have their price met for the Norwegian Internationalist.
