Celtic Curio’s Scottish Cup Collage as Celtic target Trophy Win Number 41

Celtic Curio’s latest collage is all about what is traditionally Celtic’s favourite competition – the Scottish Cup. We’ve won the old trophy a record breaking 40 times including of course on each of the last four occasions as part of an historic and pretty amazing Quadruple Treble.

Having won 12 trophies in a row since Hibs beat theRangers in the Scottish Cup Final in 2016 – a game that sadly was marred by the losing clubs fans spilling onto the park to ‘protect’ their players after every single one of them was assaulted by those dastardly Hibs fans – Celtic probably were due a cup defeat and that came during the particularly dark winter we’ve just endured, at home to Ross County in the League Cup.

With the Premiership campaign failing to end in the triumph of the previous nine, Celtic’s season comes down to retaining the Scottish Cup for a record breaking fifth consecutive season.

But it is more than that, legendary skipper Scott Brown hopes to sign off on a brilliant, trophy laden 14 years at Celtic by lifting the Scottish Cup on 22 May at Hampden and there will be many players playing their last game for the club that day, loan players and the wee group of wantaways, then there will be those wanting to stay and hoping to play under the incoming new manager. Howe they perform in this Scottish Cup run which gets underway at 7.30pm this evening could very well determine their fate.

“Just now, I’m only focused on playing as many games as possible between now and the end of the season and hopefully we’ll get to another cup final as well,” said the 36-year-old Celtic captain told the Mainstream Media on Thursday afternoon.

“We have a huge game at the weekend and we need to make sure we get a good result and put on a good performance at home. It’ll be a good one for us and it’s good to get all the lads back after the international break.

“That’s what I’m here to do, it’s what I’ve been paid to do for the last 14 years of my career and it’s what I love to do. I’ll give 100 per cent for whatever team I play for i that’s my mentality. When cross that white line and go on the park, I fight and win games.”

“I’ve had 14 fantastic years at this club and I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it,” he said. “It’s been a wonderful career for myself and I’ve enjoyed those moments with the fans and it’s just a pity that I can’t share the last five or six games with them and see them in the stadium.

“They’ve been a part of my journey as much as I’ve been part of theirs. It’s been great, it’ll be emotional times when I finish the last game of the season.”

Falkirk believe that they are in with a shout but John Kennedy himself knows that he’s in the frame for a place in the incoming manager’s staff, with him still believing that the top job could be his the next time around. That though is perhaps dependent on the Scottish Cup being safe under his watch. He will be looking for his side to sweep aside the Bairns with some style and by scoring a few goals.
