Celtic Down Under, Through the Night – Matt O’Riley, ‘Lucky Enough’

“It shows how big the club is, which I’m lucky enough to be in now which is amazing,” Matt O’Riley…

Matt O’Riley looked ahead to the match against Everton and with his disappointment at not making the Denmark squad for the World Cup subsiding, looked ahead to the break that the Celtic players not in Qatar will get after returning from Australia.

The midfielder continues to be amazed by the incredible backing that the team gets anywhere and everywhere they go, with O’Riley recalling the Vegas Convention and everyone signing Jura’s song over there. In Sydney Celtic supporters are everywhere and Matt O’Riley is expecting a large Celtic Support at the game against Premier League side Everton, who he is anxious to test ourselves against.

“That was my mindset for this trip to get as much fitness in the tank before we get a little break to freshen up and then go back again. Tomorrow, the incentive is to give as much as you can to make sure the legs are in the best condition possible to go back into the league and it’s different weather conditions as well which probably makes it a bit harder, so it’s a good test.

“It should be fun and it’s another test for us against Premier League opposition. They are the teams we want to play against to see where we’re at in comparison to them and it’s a chance to put another good performance in.

“I wanted to be at the World Cup but there are positives of not being at that where you can shut the body down a bit. We’ve all played a lot of football, so a bit of rest to go again should be beneficial.”

O’Riley reckons that getting away from the domestic game is a good thing as it allows the team bonding to strengthen, there’s a change of scenery and water conditions – the sun is out now – and it also helps that Celtic left the league table in try good shape, nine points clear at top of the league looking down on theRangers
