Celtic expected to make shrewd move to sign Aberdeen player

Celtic are expected to sign Ross Doohan on a free transfer from Aberdeen in the coming weeks. The 27-year-old was on the bench for Jimmy Thelin’s side in the Scottish Cup Final as Mitov proved to be the hero of the shootout.

However, according to Record Sport’s Scott Burns, Celtic could make a move for the goalkeeper – who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Celtic have been linked with the player in recent weeks as they look to add a Scottish player, who is Academy trained, to their ranks to comply with UEFA regulations. Kieran Tierney will add to the club and assist with this but Doohan’s role will likely be as a supporting figure working with Stevie Woods, Kasper Schmeichel and Vil Sinisalo.

The arrival of Doohan will likely mean an end to a successful Celtic career for Scott Bain, who has enjoyed a number of roles since joining the club in 2018. Bain has been a No.1, substitute goalkeeper and, more recently, third pick. The 33-year-old is expected to depart for first team opportunities having made 78 appearances for the club over a trophy laden spell.
