Celtic face battle for Thomas Henry from Bordeaux, according to report

Bordeaux are interested in signing reported Celtic target Thomas Henry. According to Get Football News France, Bordeaux are the latest team to lodge an interest in the striker. Serie A side Venezia have also levelled an offer to OH Leuven for the ex-Nantes attacker. Celtic were reported as being close to reaching a deal for Henry as a replacement for French U21 star Odsonne Edouard.

Henry scored 21 goals last season for the Belgian side and The Scottish Sun said that Ange Postecoglou was close to signing him for £7m. Newcastle and Crystal Palace were linked with a move but the report stated that Celtic were the frontrunners to seal his deal. It looks as if nothing has been agreed yet as a number of teams weigh up moves.

Celtic are looking to sell Edouard this summer as they continue the rebuild under Ange Postecoglou. The manager brought in Kyogo Furuhashi from the J-League and he impressed on his Celtic Park debut, scoring a hat-trick as Celtic dispatched Dundee 6-0. Leigh Griffiths is set to return to training with Albian Ajeti appearing on the fringes of the first team already this season; however, none of the players offer a particularly physical option in attack. Henry would be an excellent signing but Celtic will face competition for his signature and will likely only be in a position to sign him if Odsonne Edouard is sold.
