Celtic face challenge from Rangers for the signature of Alfie Doughty

Celtic are set to be challenged for the signature of Charlton Athletic’s Alfie Doughty by Rangers. The Athletic are reporting that Steven Gerrard’s side are interested in hijacking a move for the 21-year-old. The left-back will be a free agent in the summer meaning he can negotiate with any new teams in January.

The report also links Premier League side Fulham with an interest in Doughty, who could be subject to a bidding war in January as teams try and secure the future of the highly-rated youngster.

Celtic made a number of bids during the summer transfer window but opted against paying over the odds for the talented youngster. Instead, they signed Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan as a replacement for Bolingoli with the Uruguayan impressing. Doughty can play in attack and defence and would almost be like a Jonny Hayes type signing, high energy and versatility.

Celtic may see the left side depleted with Elyounoussi and Laxalt’s loan deals concluding in the summer. However, there is the 10IAR question that needs entered before any recruitment for next season is considered.
