Celtic face competition from Spurs in their efforts to take advantage of financial uncertainty and sign young star

It’s always a shame when teams make a move to sign players after a club go into administration, but at least it can give them some much needed income too.

The whole situation at Wigan Athletic is an absolute mess with the club being placed into administration, only for allegations appearing online that the previous owner had done it on purpose.

Things are looking up just now after The BBC reported that new owners could be in place soon, but the club is still in some financial difficulty.

This means it’s likely that any player could be sold for a reasonable fee, and it could help Celtic in their quest to sign Joe Gelhardt.

Football Insider has looked at the latest with his situation, and it sounds like Spurs are also showing an interest. It’s not clear how much he would cost at this point, but they spoke to former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown and he feels he will want to join the London club:

“No, we’re talking Spurs in the Premier League. I had the option to go to Rangers, to go play up there or to go to Spurs. I could have joined Rangers but I chose Spurs.

“There’s a giant of a club in Celtic, Rangers and Spurs so ultimately it just comes down to the league that they’re playing in and the opportunities come from there on.

“No one is questioning the size of Rangers or Celtic – it’s unbelievable – but the league of the Premier League is a different draw.”

That response came after he was asked about Celtic’s history of developing young players and if that might get them the advantage.

It’s not clear if he will leave and where he would go at this point, but Jose Mourinho has never been a manager who trusts youth, so it’s hard to see him getting into the Spurs team.

At least Celtic have shown they will give chances to players who deserve it, and that should come into his thinking when he decides where to go.
