The Celtic Fans Collective has this afternoon released a statement relating to the club’s decision to impose a six match ban on the Green Brigade following an alleged incident that happened at the entrance to the North Curve ahead of the recent match against Falkirk…
After thorough discussion amongst the Steering Group and Comms Subgroup over the past 24 hours, the Celtic Fans Collective issued the following statement addressing the recent collective punishment of the Green Brigade.
This statement carries the full support of those involved in these discussions.
Celtic posted a detailed statement, together with some video footage. The Green Brigade then released their response and now the much broader Celtic Collective, representing all the Celtic supporters associations, hundreds of CSCs and most of the Celtic fan media, has intervened to back the Green Brigade, who will as a result of the punishment dished out by Celtic, miss the upcoming matches Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Feyenoord, Hibs, Dundee, and Hearts.
The Celtic Fans Collective statement reads as follows:
“We condemn Celtic Football Club’s decision to impose a collective ban on Green Brigade members for upcoming matches without a full and transparent investigation. The Green Brigade raised concerns about how police and stewards handled this incident immediately after the Falkirk match, yet the club chose to act without engaging in dialogue or acknowledging those complaints.
“At best, this reflects a familiar pattern of the club reflexively supporting the police position over its own supporters without due process. At worst, it may appear to be a deliberate act of retaliation against a group whose vocal and visual support has embarrassed a complacent hierarchy. In stark contrast, when hundreds of supporters were unlawfully kettled, the club took months to respond, eventually commissioning a long-awaited consultative report that was then released without any comment on police conduct. There was no urgency, no defence of the supporters put at risk, and no willingness to challenge the authorities responsible.
“Yet in this instance, the club has acted at speed to discipline fans, without taking the time to speak to them or establish what actually occurred, and has publicly condemned them in the strongest possible terms. It is also worth noting that the club had previously committed to having a Collective representative involved in discussions with Police Scotland regarding the Fairhurst inquiry, as recorded in the official meeting minutes.
“Despite this commitment, no such involvement has taken place, which stands as yet another example of the club disregarding agreed channels of communication and transparency.”
