Celtic Fans TV: ‘Really bad show, no desire or intensity, such a flat performance apart from Forrest’

Celtic Fans TV were outside Celtic Park last night to speak to fans leaving the stadium after that hugely disappointing performance from the Scottish Champions that resulted in a comfortable 2-0 win for Valencia.

Goals from Denis Cheryshev and Ruben Sobrino were enough to kill the tie on a night where the Celtic performance never really got off the ground.

Here’s what the supporters were saying immediately after Celtic’s first defeat of 2019…

Some of the comments on You Tube are worth noting too…

“Result was expected for me, performance was not. Really bad show, no desire or intensity. Such a flat performance apart from Forrest. Gave the ball away so easily as well. Good to get it out the way, much bigger game on Sunday going to be very difficult. Hopefully a dose of reality to some fans saying we should be beating teams like Valencia. HH”

“Played like they knew they wouldnt win!!!”

“Another reality check for Celtic, everyone gets buzzing for beating wee diddy teams but when it comes to playing proper football against a decent outfit they always get battered.”

“We are no longer a European giant in the space of 10-11 years we have gone from last 16 champions league side to a poor man’s Europa League side. No one got pass marks tonight maybe Jamesy Forrest and Oli Burke for attempting to press and win the ball back but I feel that performance was worse than the Ibrox defeat. Valencia are not a good side they were missing 4 of their best players tie is over use the other boys second leg and rest the key boys. Onto Sunday big game here we go ten in a row.”

“Something’s wrong behind the scenes here and I don’t just mean in the boardroom. Izzy was given a thankless task of filling in for KT. Maybe 5-6 years ago yes he was quality. This side are individually petrified of being the player who doesn’t make the pass or gives the ball away.
It takes great ability and talent to pass the ball like we do at that speed but when we do we are simply going nowhere fast.

What’s the point in this super fast possession based passing game if players are afraid to take a risk and pass the ball forward when we get to the half way line? We made an unimpressive Valencia performance look good when they where there for the taking. I’m dumbfounded that our tactics against st Johnstone and the other Scottish clubs are the same as against Valencia. Every club we play against will simply wait for our speed passing game to break down at the half way line and counter attack us, it’s so predictable it’s a real worry.

It’s already causing us problems domestically. Why have we 4 strikers inc Griffiths if we play with one? It’s not the Celtic way especially at Celtic Park against Hamilton or Dundee. I’m not criticising BRs domestic record which is unparalleled. In Europe however against any half decent side never mind a club from one of the big 5 leagues we need invention and creativity, we have to press the game. This sideways -backwards approach will never work, it almost seems as though the players themselves dont believe in the philosophy. If this style of play delivers the treble treble or more importantly the 10iar then I’ll settle for it in the short term, anything to reclaim our record over their tainted equivalent.”
