Celtic finally linked to an exciting manager with experience of excelling in Europe

We’ve seen a lot of different names being linked to the Celtic job in recent weeks, but the problem is that almost every link has been utterly underwhelming or just completely unrealistic.

Something does need to change at the club and there’s a chance for a proper overhaul if Neil Lennon, John Kennedy and Scott Brown won’t be at the club next year, so this is an exciting time to be a fan.

If you were trying to create the perfect candidate, they would have experience of managing a club where immediate success is required, they’ll have shown they can over-achieve in Europe and they should also be comfortable developing younger players through the first team.

Bayer Leverkusen parted ways with their manager Peter Bosz earlier in the week, and it hasn’t taken long for him to be linked with the Celtic job following a report from HITC.

His most relevant work came at Ajax where his team scored 119 goals in his 56 games in charge and he also won over 64% of those games, so it led to an offer coming in from Borussia Dortmund.

Unfortunately he’s not managed to do as well in Germany and his time at Dortmund was a bit of a disaster, but he wouldn’t be available if everything had gone to plan so Celtic can overlook that.

He’s been praised over the years for playing an attacking style of football that requires a lot of energy from his players and they press high up the pitch, so he would also bring in a clear philosophy which has been lacking in recent months.

There’s always the risk that he’ll want time off or another job could open up in Germany or Holland, but he looks like a perfect choice for Celtic given his Europa League exploits and they need to at least put a call in with his agent to see what the situation is.
