Celtic flop closes in on four-year deal after club rejected cut-price deal

Diego Laxalt is nearing a move from AC Milan to Russian outfit FC Dynamo Moscow after Celtic rejected the opportunity to sign him on a cut-price deal. According to Tuttosport, the player will arrive in the Russian capital tomorrow to have his medical and agree terms with Dynamo in a deal worth £3m.

The Uruguayan International arrived with much anticipation to help Celtic continue their domestic dominance; however, he was underwhelming to say the least and the club rejected the opportunity to sign him on a cut-price deal. The 28-year-old was signed to replace Bolingoli and offer competition to Greg Taylor in the left wingback berth in a 3-5-2. Although, Lennon often changed his system with the ex-Milan defender switching between LB and LWB.

The Uruguayan joined on deadline day from Celtic’s Europa League Group H rivals AC Milan and immediately started the 2-0 home defeat to Rangers. His performances to begin with added a much needed pace and steel on the left hand side, something that has been missing since Kieran Tierney left for Arsenal. However, he was criticised for poor performances since November as Taylor won his place in the side again. He came back into the side under John Kennedy but was hopeless in the defeat against Rangers.

In 26 appearances, Celtic fans didn’t see the best from Laxalt but he was also playing with an extremely disjointed side and under a manager that was fighting for his own future.

  1. One of the worst players of the last 25-30 years. The number of times he gave away the ball in a single match was incredible. And he did this repeatedly. With Jonjoe Kenny in the same team it is a miracle we finished 2nd. I read this morning that Arsenal are interested in signing Kenny. That must be a mistake.
