Celtic given Luis Palma boost for Glasgow Derby

It’s the calm before the storm ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow Derby. The gossip this morning is that Luis Palma is ahead of schedule on his rehab from the muscle strain picked up in training ahead of the Scottish Cup quarter final tie against Livingston last month.

The Honduran winger is expected to resume training today and if he gets through the rest of the week without any issues then he’ll re-join the Celtic squad for the game against theRangers on Sunday.

With Callum McGregor also coming back this week and with both Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers coming through the plastic pitch challenge at Livingston at the weekend, Celtic have pretty much a full squad to choose from, a luxury that will be something new for Brendan Rodgers this season.

Celtic need to avoid defeat to keep the destination of the title in own hands. With John Beaton being Crawford Allen’s choice as referee the task is going to be that little bit tougher. Can you imagine if this game was at Celtic Park and Willie Collum was given the whistle, three months after his VAR controversy at Celtic Park in the Glasgow Derby at the end of December (IT WAS OFFSIDE!).

Well three weeks after Beaton’s disgraceful day at Tynecastle he’s got the whistle and will have his chance to put one over on Brendan Rodgers who merely called him incompetent. Our view is that competency levels should not have been questioned – Beaton knew exactly what he was doing that day and after theRangers lost to Motherwell at Ibrox, the damage was undone by his dastardly decision making that day.

We can expect more of the same on Sunday so the challenge for Celtic is not only to beat theRangers but also the match officials.

Watch this as the kind of thing that Beaton and Co could allow to happen o Sunday…

Two years ago today their hopes were high when Celtic visited Ibrox and theRangers got an early goal to the delight of the hordes. Tom Rogic (who always loved a goal against them at their place) then Cameron Carter-Vickers sent Celtic in ahead at the interval and that’s the way it finished.
