Celtic goalkeeper expected to remain at club after January deal collapses

Benjamin Siegrist’s loan to Austrian side Sturm Graz collapsed despite being all but agreed. The 31-year-old has become a peripheral figure since moving from Dundee United in the summer of 2022, making just two League Cup appearances before falling behind Scott Bain and No.1 Joe Hart in the pecking order with the Scottish Champions.

According to Record Sport, Siegrist was set to make a temporary switch to Austria but the deal fell apart at the last minute with the Swiss goalkeeper now expected to remain at Celtic. Sturm Graz are now expected to move for Liverpool keeper Vitezlav Jaros instead of Siegrist.

The Celtic Manager is expected to speak with Hart before the end of the season to discuss the next season. Hart will turn 37 in the coming months and his deal expires at the end of the season, leaving both the club and the Englishman in a precarious position in terms of next season.

Elsewhere, Celtic confirmed the sale of Yosuke Ideguchi to Vissel Kobe as the Japanese midfielder returned to the J-League. Rodgers is expected to continue the clear out with defenders Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke both expected to leave in January for first team football.
