Celtic have a top defender on their hands, claims former Scotland full-back

Celtic’s Adam Montgomery has got all the credentials to go right to the top, claims former Scotland defender Alan Hutton.

Celtic’s left-back crisis continues to burn on, with injuries to Greg Taylor and Josip Juranovic in recent weeks alongside the poor form of troublesome left-back Boli Bolingoli.

The circumstances have meant that Adam Montgomery has been chosen to fill in, and having impressed despite being thrown into the deep end, the youngster has earned rave reviews for his work.

He could potentially break into the Scotland first-team over time, and hardly anyone is better placed in terms of wide defensive positions than Alan Hutton, who made 50 appearances for his country.

Yet Hutton, who won the League Cup with Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, believes he can go right to the top.

He’s featured quite a lot this season, I think he can also play further up so he’s got that versatility about his game,” Hutton said to Football Insider.

Celtic have obviously had a bit of a problem at left-back. With Taylor out injured, they’ve put Juranovic there when Ralston’s at right-back.

It’s good to have those options. A person who has come through the youth academy knows what it’s all about to play for Celtic.

He’s got that desire when he’s playing so I think that’s all whole key for Ange. He seems to trust him.

As one so young, he’s not scared to throw him into big games, which is obviously good for the player as well.

He’ll be one for the future, I would imagine.”
