Celtic hero Virgil Van Dijk pictured with Rangers manager in Portugal

Former Celtic star Virgil Van Dijk is comfortably one of the best defenders in world football. The Dutchman has won all the English honours, including the elusive Premier League title, as well as the Champions League with Liverpool. Much of his grounding came from his time at Celtic, where he stood out in the Hoops.

However, he has been pictured with the Rangers manager, Giovanni Van Bronkhorst as he continues his pre-season preparations before all of Liverpool’s first team return to action. The player was training alone in Portugal when he spotted the Rangers manager on the pitches near him and stayed by to have a quick word.

Of course, the Rangers media team were quickly alerted to this and broadcast that VVD was in their presence but it is little more than a coincidence. Van Dijk won two Premiership titles in Glasgow, as well as the League Cup under Ronny Deila but he also played European football, Champions League group stages in 2013 and Europa League Last 32 the following year. A £12m move to Southampton followed and two years after that, Van Dijk became the most expensive defender in the world after a £75m move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
