Celtic hit by Greg Taylor injury as transfer inactivity bites

Celtic have been hit with an injury blow with the news that Greg Taylor picked up an injury in the closing stages of the Scottish Cup win against Buckie Thistle. The Scotland Internationalist will now miss two weeks of action as Brendan Rodgers is forced to manage the situation without any new recruits thus far.

Speaking to the media yesterday, the Celtic manager confirmed Taylor would miss a fortnight of action owing to a strained calf. It will likely bring some frustration to the Celtic boss, who has been keen to add a full-back to compete with Taylor this month.

However, there has been little in the way of rumours since Owen Beck became ineligible after Jurgen Klopp gave him a seven minute Liverpool cameo. The Scottish Champions have been linked with Thiago Araujo but have cooled their interest with Estoril looking for a £4m fee.

The manager will need to decide whether he brings Alexandro Bernabei in from the cold, gives 18-year-old Mitchell Frame the nod or slides Liam Scales to left back.

It is fairly unsatisfactory for the manager to have to look at these options given he has clearly said that he requires quality in the transfer market. Although, the move could open the door for someone to stake a claim for the position – such as Bernabei that had previously appeared to be headed out the club.
