Celtic hoping to appoint Ange Postecoglou in coming days, according to report

Celtic look set to appoint Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new manager in the coming days, according to The Scottish Sun. After Eddie Howe walked away from the negotiating table, the club utilised their connections with The City Football Group to identify the Greek-born Australian as the ideal candidate.

The 55-year-old is currently the manager of Japanese giants Yokohama F Marinos, who play in the earlier hours of Sunday. Celtic will then look to tie up an agreement for the former Socceroos manager in the coming days. Postecoglou has an interesting CV and he is certainly a left-field appointment from the football club.

If, as expected, it is Postecoglou, he will need all of the club and fans support. He clearly was not the ideal candidate for everyone but he needs to be afforded the opportunity to prove his credentials as he will have the media on his back from day one.

One man that will be extremely excited about the arrival of Ange is Tom Rogic, with the pair working together with the Australian National Team. He is widely regarded as one of the best Australian managers, having won titles in Australia as well as Japan.

Despite not being the club’s obvious first choice, he will need to adapt quickly to the task on hand and begin preparation for the new season. He will need to be able to bring in his own staff with him as this cannot be a production of the board.

  1. It’s not a left-field appointment, it’s a joke appointment, made by people none of whom are fit to hold office at Celtic FC. Kennedy will be back in charge by the end of the year, when this farce runs its course, and we’re about 20 points behind in the league.
