Celtic in Tom Rogic Boost as Socceroos Games Cancelled

Celtic have received a huge boost in their quest for yet another treble after Australia’s qualifiers were postponed due to coronavirus.

As a result, Rogic will be in Glasgow until the end of the season for the final league games as Celtic look for a record equalling 9IAR.

Rogic is a regular for the Socceroos but the travelling to Oceania often results in Rogic’s fitness being put at risk. Neil Lennon will be delighted with the news that Rogic plans to stay in the country ahead of the trip to Easter Road and the Scottish Cup semi-final with Aberdeen after the International break.

FIFA released a statement earlier today confirming that the games would be postponed until a later date.

“Following consultation with Asia’s member associations, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have agreed to postpone the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as follows:

“Matches originally scheduled to take place during the international window of 23-31 March 2020 and 1-9 June 2020 are postponed to later dates. FIFA and the AFC will discuss further details of the postponed matches.”

This is bittersweet for Celtic as we get to keep Rogic over the next few weeks but no doubt the games will be rescheduled at a time later in the year, when Celtic could perhaps need him more.

Rogic is a big game player and will be hoping he does enough to merit a start on Sunday.
