Celtic legend James Forrest has suggested he would welcome another opportunity on the international stage for Scotland after reaching a major personal milestone at the weekend…
The iconic Hoops winger found the net during the crucial 3-1 victory over Aberdeen, a strike that not only sealed the result but also marked an extraordinary achievement in his long career with the Scottish champions.
That goal ensured Forrest has now scored in 17 successive seasons for Celtic, placing him in an elite group alongside club greats Jimmy McMenemy and Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox. Matthew Marr’s brilliant article on this is well worth a read.
Now, the academy graduate hinted that his continued consistency could yet earn him renewed consideration for Scotland duty, should the opportunity arise later in the campaign, especially given the World Cup is just around the corner.
Speaking to Sky Sports reflecting on last Sunday, Forrest said: “It was unbelievable. It was a really good moment and just shows how long I’ve been here and had so much success, but it was more importantly to get the win and to turn the feeling that’s been around the club for the last couple of weeks.”
“Last season, it was good that it happened, scoring in the last minute, and the fans, the stadium, all the players, everyone was buzzing for me, but I’m delighted to get it out of the way earlier this year and hopefully kick on and score a few more before the end of the season.”

When questioned about whether he hopes he can return to Steve Clarke’s setup ahead of next summer’s World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada, the 34 year-old responded: “It’s always been the same. You need to concentrate on your club form and do well for your club to be a shout for the national team. The boys have done unbelievably there, it’s a great moment for the country and them qualifying.”
“I’ve had a good relationship with the manager before, but it all comes down to what you do with your club team and putting yourself in the frame.”
