Celtic linked with another Atletico Madrid youngster after striker told he can leave for €500k

Celtic were already being linked with an incredible amount of strikers before Neil Lennon decided not to use any of his current crop, so his recent team selections will only fuel those rumours.

There’s been a few links to Atletico Madrid lately with their young midfielder Rodrigo Riquelme being touted for a move, but now it looks like his teammate is also attracting interest.

A report from Sportwitness looked at a claim from Spanish outlet AS about Serbian striker Ivan Saponjic, and it appears that he will be allowed to leave this summer.

It’s suggested that he doesn’t have a role in Diego Simeone’s side going forward and he’s reached that point in his career where he needs to play, so Atleti could let him go for as little as €500k.

They go on to suggest that Celtic are interested but they’re still trying to decide if they should make the move for him, so it does suggest they have other targets in mind.

He’s never scored more than five league goals in a season and he’s more of a target man/link-up kind of player, but he would be cheap so it could be worth taking a punt on him.
