Celtic linked with out of contract Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke – “He’s very robust, a Lyndon Dykes type”

Mark Wilson, the host on The Celtic Huddle Podcast earlier today broke a transfer exclusive news story, linking Celtic with an interest in the 28 year old Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke. The 6’2 striker has scored 25 goals this season is excellent in the air and is out of contact this summer so is available on a free.

Celtic face competition from Nottingham Forest who Scott McDonald reckons has benefited this season from the quality of deliver from the wide areas from former Celt Aiden McGeady.

McDonald revealed that he worked with Wyke when he was a youngster after the Australian signed for Middlesbrough after Gordon Strachan took over as manager.

“Charlie started at Middlesbrough. He was a young boy coming through when I first signed under Gordon Strachan.

“He’s got a pedigree in the lower leagues,” Skippy noted. “Whether or not that crosses over to Celtic, I’m not quite sure he would be a number one pick.

“But he’s very robust, a Lyndon Dykes type, and one of the best players in League One. I’m not sure if that’s a Celtic signing.”

Whether Wilson’s information is reliable remains to be seen. If it is accurate then the question most Celtic fans will want to know is who is making these decisions? Is the new manager – whoever that is – making the calls or is someone else signing players for him to work with.

At some point Celtic need to let us know what’s going on. And the sooner the better.
