Celtic loanee Jack Hendry has tested positive for COVID-19. The central defender is on loan with Oostende in Belgium but will miss the game against Zulte Waregem. As reported by the Daily Record, the defender tested positive for the virus just days after the player was the subject of a bid from Premier League side Burnley.
90Min claimed that Burnley’s advances were rejected by Celtic. Whilst Celtic are open to a deal, Oostende aren’t willing to release him from their loan deal meaning that Burnley won’t be able to sign the player unless they improve the offer to Celtic and the Belgians.
Hendry joined in January 2018 from Dundee but has faced criticism from supporters for some shaky performances for the Scottish Champions. Brendan Rodgers signed Hendry for north of £2m but has failed to prove himself at Celtic Park.
Oostende have offered Hendry the opportunity to get playing again, allowing him to prove himself to Celtic or potential suitors.
Hendry arrived for a high fee, which would have added extra pressure to the youngster. Rodgers appeared content asking him to play at right back as well as at the heart of defence; however, he has struggled to justify the price tag – often copping flak when thrown in at the deep end by Rodgers. AEK Athens away was an example of Hendry being put in the deep end and judged harshly after a few games.
You have to think that he can’t be worse than some of the players currently available at centre back for Celtic.
