Celtic make £3m bid for highly-rated Swedish defender

Celtic have made a £3m bid for highly-rated Swedish defender Gustaf Lagerbielke. The 23-year-old has two and a half years remaining on his current deal with Elfsborg and Brendan Rodgers’ side are looking to test their resolve with a bid of around 40 million Swedish Kroner.

According to SportExpressan journalist Anel Avdić, the Scottish Champions have made an offer for the Swedish central defender.

The report continues stating that the clubs are in intensive talks as they look to thrash out an agreement that would see the youngster join Celtic and replace outgoing Carl Starfelt, who is set to depart for Celta Vigo.

It is believed that the player’s agent met with Celtic on Sunday to iron out personal terms as it is hoped that a deal can be struck that can see Lagerbielke join up with the biggest team in the country. Ajax have also been cited on social media as being interested in signing the player.

With Starfelt set to depart, Celtic will need to reinforce their defensive options. Stephen Welsh and Yuki Kobayashi have been touted for exits, along with Liam Scales, who spent last season on loan with Aberdeen with the Dons keen to resign the Irishman. Maik Nawrocki arrived from Legia Warsaw and started at the weekend alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
