Celtic make €700k in vital UCL point against Atalanta

Celtic secured a point with an impressive defensive display away to Atalanta. The Scottish Champions had to battle against the Europa League holders in order to get a result but it was a fine response after the humbling defeat in Dortmund.

The Celts are also bolstered by the financial boost at receiving €700k in prize money from the draw. Atalanta, who were heavily tipped as favourites, were left frustrated as Celtic battled for every ball, ensuring they’d leave Bergamo with a positive result.

The result, which adds 0.2 to the coefficient, came about thanks to impressive displays from the central defensive pairing of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales. The American, who started in place of CCV, was fantastic as he grappled, blocked and headed everything clear.

Brendan said that he wouldn’t abandon his approach going into the game but clearly there was a message of pragmatism imposed from the Irishman as Celtic looked to frustrate their opponents.

Before the game, Brendan said that his side would need to be aggressive and resilient against the Serie A side. The team did the dirty work and dealt with the waves of Atalanta pressure resolutely.

Atalanta held Arsenal in Bergamo and the ability of the Celtic team to manage the game was impressive – even if it was nervy at times.
