Celtic midfielder nears EFL move as medical completed

Celtic midfielder Scott Robertson is nearing a move to Fleetwood Town. The 21-year-old’s deal with the Scottish Champions expires in the summer and the player has been informed that there will be no extension forthcoming meaning that the player was free to find a new club.

According to The Daily Record, Robertson is close to agreeing on a switch to League One side Fleetwood, currently managed by Celtic legend Scott Brown. The Scotland U21s star has undergone a medical as the deal inches towards completion.

Robertson recently travelled to Australia with Celtic and has been part of the first team squad this season but has not had any competitive minutes. He returned to Celtic in the summer after completing a series of successful loan spells at English lower league clubs Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers and most recently Crewe.

As a highly-rated teenager Scott Robertson was given his senior debut by Neil Lennon in away to CRF Cluj in a Europa League Group match in December 2019. With no prospect of any game-time at Celtic, Robertson will look to kickstart his career with a new home elsewhere.

As with any deal of this type, Celtic should include a buy-back clause should the player realise his potential after leaving on a permanent deal. The player showcased that he is a talent by scoring in the Celtic B win over Wolves U21 midweek, which will surely have been a catalyst for Fleetwood progressing with this move seemingly out of nowhere.

Good luck to Scott Robertson with Fleetwood.
