SATURDAY 14 MARCH 1908 – Jimmy Quinn today becomes the “uncrowned king of Ireland” in Dublin as he scores four of Scotland’s five goals against Ireland. A telegram delivered in the evening to his Dublin hotel tells him that Celtic, in his absence, have beaten Partick Thistle 3-0 with goals from Willie Kivlichan, Alec Bennett and Peter Somers.
SATURDAY 14 MARCH 1936 – The legend of “goal-a-minute” James McGrory is born to-day as he scores a hat-trick in three minutes early in the second half as Celtic beat Motherwell 5-0 at Parkhead. Jimmy Delaney and Willie Buchan score the other goals before a crowd of about 18,000.
SATURDAY 14 MARCH 1953 – Celtic trudge off the park at Ibrox, defeated 0-2 by Rangers in the Scottish Cup quarter final. There were a few chances, but the truth is that they were well beaten. It looks like the end of the season, another woeful one as far as Celtic are concerned. But they are to be rescued from a scarcely believable quarter, when someone suggests a Cup to be played for in honour of the Coronation this summer.
SATURDAY 14 MARCH 1981 – Celtic really turn on the style with a 7-0 thumping of hapless St.Mirren at Celtic Park. The football is consistently scintillating, and even more good news is given to the Celtic fans when both Aberdeen and Rangers, the main challengers for the title, lose ground that day to Kilmarnock and Hearts respectively. Frank McGarvey scores a hat-trick, George McCluskey scores two and Roy Aitken and Charlie Nicholas score one each. Frank’s reaction is to be sick in the toilet!

WEDNESDAY 14 MARCH 2001 – At McDiarmid Park, Celtic take another three points in their quest for a treble in Martin O’Neill’s first year as they beat St Johnstone 2-1. Tommy Johnson and Henrik Larsson are the scorers, but a serious blow is delivered when Stilian Petrov is carried off with what looks like a broken ankle.
