At Clune Park, Port Glasgow, Celtic have a narrow and possibly rather lucky 3-2 win over Port Glasgow thanks to a goal from Peter Johnstone, then a penalty sunk by Jamie Weir and the just at the end when a draw seemed inevitable, a shot from Jimmy Quinn struck the post and went into the net to give Celtic a victory in a rather unpleasant kind of game.
SATURDAY 16 OCTOBER 1965
Brockville has seen rather too any Celtic disasters in the past, but today sees a great game which Celtic win by the odd goal in seven. Celtic were three times behind but equalised on all three occasions before Bobby Lennox scored the winner. It was Lennox’s second goal, and the other two goals were scored by Bobby Murdoch and Jimmy Johnstone.

If anyone ever had the slightest doubt about the value of young Kenny Dalglish, the reservations must have been dispelled today when the fair-haired youngster scores a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Dundee at Parkhead before 32,000 fans. Not only does he score the goals, but his distribution and positional sense are worthy of a veteran. Less happily, Tommy Gemmell misses a penalty.
