Davie Hamilton scored twice

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER 1903 – Only a very small crowd of about 2,000 are at Meadowside, the home of Partick Thistle, in pouring rain to see Celtic beat the home side 4-0 with Alec Bennett and Davie Hamilton scoring two goals each.

Jimmy Delaney scored twice

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER 1942 – News of the advance of the British Eighth Army has cheered everyone up, but Celtic’s form remains inconsistent. Today sees a better game however with two goals from Jimmy Delaney and one from the recently signed Davie Duncan in a 3-2 win over Motherwell at Celtic Park.

Charlie Gallagher scored

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER 1964 – Celtic are now sixth in the Scottish League following a dreadful 1-2 defeat at home to Dunfermline at a cold Celtic Park before a crowd about half the size you would have expected to see a Celtic v Dunfermline game. It was actually not a bad game with the team at least putting up a fight and Charlie Gallagher equalising an early Dunfermline goal. But the Pars finished stronger, and Alex Ferguson scored a late winner to plunge the Celtic faithful into even more depression. Words like “finished” are now freely heard.

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER 1987 – In the context of 1987, a 0-0 draw with Aberdeen is considered to be a good result. Not all the 39,000 fans at Parkhead shared that opinion however, and many left before the end convinced that neither side were going to score because the defences of both teams were on top. Both teams are still in with a chance of the League, but this midwinter clash does not impress.

19th December 2021; Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish League Cup final, Hibernian versus Celtic: Kyogo Furuhashi of Celtic roars in celebration at putting Celtic level 1-1 in the 52nd minute
19th December 2021; Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish League Cup final, Hibernian versus Celtic: Kyogo Furuhashi of Celtic celebrates after he makes it 2-1 to Celtic in the 72nd minute
19th December 2021; Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish League Cup final, Hibernian versus Celtic: Goalscorer Kyogo Furuhashi, Celtic Manager Angelos Postecoglou and captain Callum McGregor of Celtic celebrate with the trophy

SUNDAY 19 DECEMBER 2021 – Ange Postecoglou today wins his first trophy for Celtic, and lays down a marker that Celtic are here to stay at the top, as the team defeat Hibs 2-1 to win the Scottish League Cup for the 20th time. It is a good game on a cold December day at Hampden, but Kyogu’s two goals (by no means dissimilar in character) are enough to ward off a strong challenge from the Edinburgh men. Hibs scored first but within a minute Kyogu had equalised, and then he later went on to score the winner.
