SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 1914 – Sunny Jim has a lucky escape from a lady’s umbrella at Forfar today. The outraged lady is the mother of Alec Troup, Forfar’s star man whom Sunny has fouled several times, but maternal soccer hooliganism is restrained by other members of the crowd and Sunny himself laughs it off. Celtic win the game 5-0 before a crowd of 6,000 with a hat-trick from Jimmy McColl and one each from Jimmy McMenemy and Joe Dodds.
SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 1931 – John Thomson, Peter Wilson and Peter Scarff are all away playing in a dull 0-0 draw for Scotland against Northern Ireland in Belfast, but Celtic still beat St Mirren 3-2 in a thrilling game at Love Street with two goals from Bertie Thomson and one from Charlie Napier.
SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 1953 – In a remarkable game at Brockville in the Scottish Cup, Celtic come back to beat Falkirk 3-2 with goals from Charlie Tully, John McGrory and Willie Fernie. It is the Tully goal that makes this game famous, for he takes a corner-kick and scores direct from it, but then has to take it again because the ball is not properly in the arc. Calmly he gives the ball to the linesman to place it for him, takes the kick and scores again. Some spectators are injured in the 23,000 crowd crammed into the inadequate ground.
