Celtic 4-2 Kilmarnock. Despite squandering a two-goal lead, the Hoops recovered in the second half to maintain their advantage in the Scottish Premier League. Roy Keane was given his home debut in a more defensive suited role after the Clyde shambles a week prior. On the scoresheet for Celtic were four different scorers; Nakamura, Maloney, McManus and Zurawski.

Celtic 2-1 Dundee United. No change at the top of the table, Neil Lennon’s side remained two points clear of Rangers. Three points was all that mattered as Celtic commendably won their 11th straight league game. Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama’s two strikes in the space of five minutes gave the Hoops a comfortable lead, but John Rankin’s effort five minutes after the interval made it a nervy second half for Celtic.

Raith Rovers 1-2 Celtic. It was the late, late show in Fife as Jorge Cadete’s equaliser and Chris Hay’s eventual winner with two minutes to play sealed a fourth win in as many games for Tommy Burns’ men since a dreadful defeat at Ibrox. Hugh Keevins had claimed in the front pages of the Scotsman that Pierre Van Hooijdonk was about to be sold to West Ham for £4m.

Aberdeen 1-2 Celtic. Despite Gordon Marshall’s blunder in the first half which saw Billy Dodds take the lead for the hosts, Cadete and Van Hooijdonk secured an important win for Celtic who extended their unbeaten run to 17 games, their best since clinching the title in 1988. Referee Mike McCurry was struck by a missile from the home support which led to a probe by Grampian Police.

Hearts 1-2 Celtic. Jiri Jarosik’s superb winner stretched Gordon Strachan’s side’s lead at the top of the table to a remarkable 17 points. An appalling first half, the Hoops couldn’t be any worse after the interval, and to their credit, they came from behind and deserved three points at Tynecastle. With the league wrapped up, it was all about looking ahead to the highly anticipated Champions League knockout tie versus Barcelona in February.

Bertie Auld signs for Celtic for the second time. Just the five league titles, three Scottish Cup’s, four League Cup’s and a European Cup for the Lisbon Lion during his unprecedented time as a Celt under Jock Stein. Making 279 appearances, Auld was not only a midfield genius, the Panmure Street boy would establish himself as one of the most popular characters in Celtic’s history.

SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1905 – Celtic lose 1-2 to Dundee at Dens Park. On a very hard ground, Celtic made the mistake of playing in rubber soles on a hard pitch and have to take it in turns to change footwear. Peter Somers scores Celtic’s only goal.
SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1928 – Jimmy McGrory scores a phenomenal tally of eight goals in a 9-0 demolition of Dunfermline Athletic at Parkhead. Alec Thomson scores the other, but the man behind it all is Tommy McInally. It is a pity that bad weather restricts the attendance to a meagre 4,000. Referee Tommy Small of Dundee says after the game that he was in danger of losing count.

THURSDAY 14 JANUARY 1965 – Celtic supporters are given a much needed boost with the news that Bertie Auld is to return from Birmingham City for a fee of £12,000. Bertie would later claim that he already knew that Jock Stein was coming back.

SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1967 – No-one knows it at the time, but this is the first appearance of the team which will in little more than four months’ time win the European Cup. Today they come together to beat St Johnstone 4-0 at Muirton Park in front of a large crowd of 19,000 fans. Jimmy Johnstone scores two goals, Steve Chalmers one and Bobby Lennox one.
SUNDAY 14 JANUARY 2007 – Celtic travel to Tynecastle today and win 2-1 in a televised match with goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Jiri Jarosik after Hearts had scored first. They are now 17 points clear at the top of the League.
