Celtic 1-0 Neuchatel Xamax, UEFA Cup, 6th November 1991. Press cutting via The Celtic Wiki

6 November 1991, Celtic 1-0 Neuchatel Xamax. Embarrassingly thumped 5-1 in Switzerland two weeks earlier, the chances of making the next round of the UEFA Cup for Celtic became an impossible task. Despite this, a decent turnout of 25,000 watched the Hoops beat their opposition in the second leg. Charlie Nicholas could have forced slight pressure on the opposition inside four minutes but made a complete mess of his penalty kick. Joe Miller scored the game’s only goal early into the second half. Neuchatel would go onto face Real Madrid in the next round, and although the Swiss surprisingly defeated the Galacticos at home, they were dismantled at the Bernabeu 4-0 in the second leg.
