Celtic on verge of signing Adam Idah as player makes his intentions clear

Adam Idah has made it clear to Norwich City that he wants to leave to club and sign for Celtic.

That’s the latest development after Celtic made contact with Norwich on Wednesday only to have their £4m plus add-ons quickly thrown out by the Carrow Road bosses.

Negotiations are however ongoing with Celtic likely to be back in shortly with a higher bid that will be partly funded by offloading South Korean striker Oh Hyeon-gyu to ambitious Belgian side Genk. Norwich appear to be  looking for up to £7m for the 23 year old Republic of Ireland striker but the expectations are that the deal will be concluded closer to £6m with some add-ons included.

Sky sports reported today that Celtic have made an approach regarding the availability of cup final hero Adam Idah. However the bid in the region of £4 million plus add ons was quickly rejected by Norwich but negotiations continued.

With four years still remaining on Idah’s contract, the Canaries know that they can drive up the price based on the striker’s success at Celtic this year. However it’s also that success that has left the player desperate to return to the club he supports and loves playing for.

New Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup wanted to run the rule over Adam before making any decisions about his future.  He is aware that Idah wants to leave and he also knows that his own transfer budget is basically the money that is brought in via player trading. Johannes Hoff Thorup is likely to regard the £6m from Celtic as a decent starting point in his own transfer plans to re-shape the side that failed to make the play-offs last season.

It seems that Celtic are serious about signing Adam, they have the financial resources to do just that and the relationship between the manager Brendan Rodgers and the player is very strong indeed. Add to that the glory of that Scottish cup final winner against theRangers for Idah and the fact that he’s a Cork Bhoy who has supported Celtic all his life all point to a deal happening imminently.

Scott Burns at Daily Record is reporting that Idah will be given permission to travel to Scotland for talks and a medical ahead of the transfer being concluded. He reports:

‘Adam Idah is on the verge of a return to Celtic. The Hoops made their move for the £6 million-rated striker today. Talks between the two clubs are now at an advanced stage. There has been significant progress made by Celtic and a deal is close. Idah is expected to be given permission to travel north for talks, a medical and to put pen to paper. The Republic of Ireland star has made it clear to Norwich City that wants to rejoin the Scottish champions this summer.’
