Celtic’s league campaign is effectively over. It would take an absolute miracle to turn things around, a miracle which would entail Celtic winning their three games in hand and the two derby games to cut the deficit to six points. Thereafter, the Bhoys would need to win all other matches and hope that the Rangers drop those remaining six points.
Most fans have given up hope, pundits have conceded the title and right minded people assume that the trophy will be going to Ibrox. However, the Celtic players can’t think like right minded people. They have to try and hope for miracles.
Their task begins with one of the toughest tests possible – an away trip to Livingston’s all-weather astro turf surface, which doesn’t respond well to rain or frost, but that’s another story.
Celtic haven’t won at the Tony Macaroni Arena since Livingston were promoted to the SPFL. We drew 0-0 there on 10 November 2018, lost 2-0 on 6 October 2019 and drew 2-2 with a last minute equaliser on 4 March 2020. The latter fixture was one of the last to have fans in the stadium and sent Celtic 13 points clear as the Rangers faltered at home to Hamilton Accies that same evening.
The Bhoys need to buck that trend and will be without at least one mystery player who has tested positive for COVID-19 during his isolation.
The match takes place on Wednesday evening with a kick-off time of 8.15pm.
