Celtic Starlet Tiree Burchill’s Delight at Loan Move to Motherwell

As we mentioned yesterday on The Celtic Star, Tiree Burchill has gone out on loan from Celtic FC Women to join Motherwell for the remainder of this season, in order to get valuable SWPL1 game-time.

Tiree Burchill made her debut for the Celtic first-team in June 2021 and has made the step into Fran Alonso’s first team this season after a successful loan spell with Hamilton Accies last season. She got her first senior start at the beginning of this season when Celtic came out the traps flying with a 9-0 win over Hibs, and Burchill got an assist for the opening goal of the season.

Scoring in her most recent Scotland Under 17s match last year against Azerbaijan, Burchill has represented her country from Under 15 to Under 17 level.

“I’m delighted to be joining Motherwell for the rest of the season,” Burchill said, speaking to the official Motherwell FC website. “It’s a brilliant opportunity for me to play games and develop as a player. I’m looking forward to learning from Paul, Leanne and the rest of the staff and with hard work hopefully we can have a successful end to the season.”

Tiree, who will wear the number 20 shirt at Motherwell, is of course the daughter of former Celtic striker Mark Burchill, so she’ll be looking to establish a playing career in the Celtic first team from next season and the spell working with Paul Brownlie at Motherwell will help her enormously on achieving her personal goals.

The Motherwell head coach Paul Brownlie was also delighted that this deal has gone through. He told the official Motherwell website: “I’m extremely pleased to get Tiree to Motherwell, another fantastic addition to the squad to add more quality middle to front. Our recruitment during the window has been excellent and I’m delighted Tiree has chosen Motherwell to further aid her development,” he added.

Motherwell last night had a 2-0 away win against Glasgow Women in the SWPL1 while Fran Alonso’s Celtic side won 3-0 on the road at Spartans to extract some revenge for the league cup shock defeat against Spartans earlier in the season and to keep the title charge on track. More on that vital win over Spartans to follow…
