Celtic still top of the Premiership, statement needed on Saturday

Celtic remain top of the Cinch Premiership after the result in Govan earlier this evening. Philippe Clement’s side played their long-held game in hand against Ross County and knew that three clear goals would take them to the top of the table on goal difference.

Celtic face Kilmarnock on Saturday and with the chance to put pressure on Rangers, who play at St Johnstone on Sunday, by producing a statement win against Derek McInnes’ team. The Ayrshire side have beaten Celtic twice at Rugby Park this season; however, Brendan will be keen to make sure his side show their supremacy at Paradise on Saturday.

Rangers had the chance to go top of the table for the second time this month but, as they did against Aberdeen, they were unable to do it. It will likely worry that Rangers supporters that they cannot take advantage of the opportunities to put serious pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Celtic have been far from their best but have been grinding results out. The rhetoric around the club has been exaggerated, suggesting that they are miles of their city rivals. In nine, Celtic have eight wins and one draw, which is a good record. Now, the performances need to stack up and the team need to get the fans onside for what is set to be a title race.

Celtic have been ahead of Rangers for well over a decade so we are fighting complacency. Sorry but we can’t say we are ” set to be in a title race “. We ARE in one and have been for a number of weeks. We need a narrative of urgency but not panic in order to get ourselves pushing on. One advantage is that we are mostly proven winners

  2. You say ” the team need to get the fans onside for what is set to be a title race.” I say the fans should be supporting encouraging and motivating the team they claim to support, not needing to be persuaded to get onside , far to much criticism of the players and style of play IMO , just winning the three points is all that matters , and whether we win this league or not ,the board should be held accountable for there even being a title race thanks to our complete failure to strengthen in the transfer window , Hail hail .
