Celtic Striker Heading to Tokyo – Bayo’s Olympics Call-up

With his future undecided – the Ivory Coast striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo is currently in limbo between a return to French second division side Toulouse or returning to Celtic to try to make an impression on new manager Ange Postecoglou – there is at least some certainly where he’ll be playing his football this summer. In Tokyo!

Bayo today has been named as part of the Ivory Coast squad heading to the Olympics in Japan. Here’s the squad, incidentally their first choice goalkeeper might sell a few Jerseys at Celtic!

Bayo spent last season on loan at Toulouse and scored ten goals in 31 appearances, including in the play-off final against Nantes where Toulouse missed out on a top flight return on goal-difference.

Toulouse are keen to bring Bayo back for another season but seem unwilling to meet the transfer fee or agree personal terms  with the striker Celtic signed from from Slovakian club Dunajska Streda in January 2019.

Bayo scored two goals in 19 Celtic appearances, mostly from the bench it should be noted.  Postecoglou is weighing up whether to offer a Celtic lifeline to fringe players like Bayo, Marian Shved and Boli Bolingoli. If he does want to keep Bayo at the club he’ll have to factor in the player’s Olympics commitments next month.
