Ivan Toney was heavily linked with a move to Celtic in the summer but despite the very public dispute of the striker, Toney signed for Brentford whilst Celtic went for Albian Ajeti from West Ham. The sizeable fee that Brentford will surely ask for from any suitors will likely highlight the missed opportunity of the Celtic recruitment team during the summer.
According to The Daily Mail, Celtic’s transfer failings could be compounded as Toney is linked with a big money move to Mikel Arteta’s side. Despite signing for a fee that could go up to £10m in the summer, Toney is already being linked with a move away.
The striker netted 26 times last season for Peterborough but since a move to Brentford, he has scored 24 goals for the Championship side in all competitions already. Celtic missed out on a move for the striker and now the striker is being linked with West Ham and Arsenal.
Celtic instead went for Albian Ajeti, who has scored 5 goals and assisted 3 goals in 21 games since joining from West Ham for £5m. Ajeti struggled for game time with The Hammers and with injuries and appearing to struggle to get a run in the team, he is yet to impress with a lot of supporters questioning why they didn’t snap up Toney.
The signing policy has come under fire, especially when Shane Duffy, Vasilis Barkas and Patryk Klimala are added to the equation or other players like Shved, Bayo and other players that have been signed yet have struggled to show their worth to the club.
