Celtic target Romain Perraud is back with his Nice teammates – for now at least

IT was smiles all round this morning as the OGC Nice players got back to work to start their pre-season training. One player given as particularly warm welcome was Celtic target Romain Perraud who spent last season on loan at Paris FC but is back at his parent club on the Cote d’Azur – for now anyway.

Celtic have had two bids rejected for the left back who Neil Lennon scouted personally in April and who remains a firm target for this week ahead of the first Champions League signing deadline on Thursday.

At the weekend we reported that Romain Perraud had dropped a huge hint that he could be signing for the Scottish Champions. Both Celtic and French side Brest have submitted bids for the want-away Nice left back who spent last season on loan at FC Paris.

Indeed Celtic have had two confirmed bids rejected but a third one should do the trick especially with the player now agitating for a move.

Football writer Robin Barnier at Goal.com has this afternoon provided the following update:

“Celtic target Romain Perraud has been speaking to Onze: “I have proposals so it’s positive. I’m a little in the spotlight, but I belong to Nice so we’ll see. I can’t speak.”

“He does admit that playing Champions League football is his “ultimate goal”.

The reference to the Champions League is highly significant. Obviously Brest are not involved in that competition so as the only other known bidder it is looking increasingly like Perraud will be coming to Celtic, as of course you have already read on The Celtic Star last week.

With Nice now back for pre-season training this morning Romain Perraud is sure to be looking to discuss his desired exit from the club and could be the next player to join up with Neil Lennon’s Celtic side after the signings of Jullien and Connell over the last few days.

Fingers crossed on this one.
