Celtic Target Wanyama Seals Spurs Exit

Victor Wanyama has sealed his exit from Tottenham Hotspur after sealing a deal with MLS side Montreal Impact. Wanyama was allegedly a target for Celtic in January but the move never materialised meaning the midfielder had to review his options.

Despite Jose Mourinho taking over from Pochettino this season, Wanyama has failed to break his way into the first team and has now decided to join Thierry Henry’s side.

He leaves Spurs making 97 appearances since his move from Southampton; however, Celtic fans will be asking why it is not Glasgow that the Kenyan is headed for? His huge wages would no doubt have been a factor but another option in the midfield could have added some extra steel.

Albeit, there is no point crying over spilt milk. In truth, people will remember Wanyama as the player he was when he left Celtic instead of maybe the player that he is. Injuries have curtailed his recent seasons and with 97 appearances across 4 seasons whilst playing 91 in 2 seasons at Celtic.

January was a ‘will they, won’t they’ month for Wanyama and Celtic with rumours aplenty. He looked to seal a move away from London and Celtic seemed a sensible choice. Although Celtic quashed that claim as Neil Lennon appeared to opt for Ismaila Soro instead of Wanyama in the January window as Celtic’s model continues to be scouting the next star.

Best of luck with Montreal, Victor.
