Celtic targeting former Brighton star as Postecoglou plots rebuild

Celtic are being linked with a move for former Brighton and Australia star Aaron Mooy. The 30-year-old is currently in China with Shanghai Port but he is said to be keen on leaving the Chinese Super League despite the eye-watering salary that he commands.

According to The World Game – SBS, Postecoglou would majorly benefit from a move to Glasgow, given that his wife is Scottish and he is looking to be free of the restrictions in China.

The central midfielder spent time with St Mirren before returning to Australia. This move to his homeland allowed him time to improve before a move to Manchester City. Despite never featuring for the English club, he impressed on loan at Huddersfield, before making the move permanent. He then moved to Brighton for £12m following The Terriers’ relegation.

Celtic are in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park with Scott Brown leaving for Aberdeen. Two other players also look set to depart – Ryan Christie appears to be set for a move, with the opportunity at the Euros to drive his price up for the club and Olivier Ntcham is on the verge of a move to AEK Athens.

Mooy would command an impressive salary but the fee for him would be minimal. Given the fact that Celtic are offloading a number of high earners, it may warrant a move for someone that can play in a deeper role as well as further forward. Celtic need to be shrewd in the summer and sign players that improve upon what we already have in each position.
