Celtic Thought To Be In Transfer Battle With Rivals Over £15m Rated South American Striker

Rafael Santos Borre is a name that a lot of readers have probably not heard before. However, he is a very highly rated striker for Argentinian giants River Plate and also plays for the Columbian national team.

River Plate have previously valued the player at £15m, but with his contract expiring on 1 July he will soon be available on a free transfer. Naturally, there is a lot of interest from South American clubs, but Celtic are now thought to be interested in securing his services and will join rivals Rangers in the race to bring him to Glasgow.

If the Hoops can bring Borre to Paradise it would be a major coup. He boasts an impressive record of 56 goals in 146 appearances at River Plate, whilst his most impressive season for the club was in 2019/20, when he scored 22 goals from 42 matches.

According to Football insider, Celtic will need to offer an ambitious long term contract to get their man, who has already played in European football during loan spells at Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Deportivo Cali. Ordinarily, wages could pose a problem, but if no transfer fee is involved in the deal, then Celtic may have greater financial ability to increase any offered salary.
