Celtic tipped to sign versatile striker for a bargain price

It’s still not clear how much money Celtic will have to spend this summer, but it’s starting to look like they will look or free agents, loans and bargains in the transfer market.

That also suggests that adding versatile players would make sense as Lenny looks to pad out his squad, so a striker who can pay on either wing could be an interesting addition.

A report from Football Insider has tipped Celtic to sign Wigan striker Jamal Lowe this summer. The English side have recently gone into administration so it suggests there are some bargains to be had.

They spoke to pundit Noel Whelan about a possible move, and it sounds like he’s a big fan:

“He has power, strength, pace and can do a box-to-box job as well. I have no doubt that he would be a great signing for Celtic.”

He would fit into the Neil Lennon plays. A fast winger who would add attacking quality and bring strength in depth.”

“Wigan, for all their financial difficulties, will have to sell players so Celtic could get him at a bargain price.”

The 26 year old has an interesting background, as he bounced around the English lower divisions before getting a move to Portsmouth a few years ago.

He’s been ever present for Wigan this season but he’s only managed six goals, so it suggests he would bring some pace and energy to the attack rather than goals, but he would also be playing in a more dominant team.

It’s also incredible that Celtic would be his thirteenth club despite his young age, but it’s also admirable when someone battles their way from non league football to the top level.

He probably wouldn’t be the exciting signing that the fans were looking for, but he would be versatile and fairly cheap.
