Celtic to offer Odsonne Edouard new deal amidst transfer interest

CELTIC will offer Odsonne Edouard a new deal with the Scottish Champions to fend off interest in the talismanic Frenchman. Edouard was injured for the visit of Ferencvaros on Wednesday, which saw a shock defeat to the Scottish Champions.

Speaking at the media conference ahead of Sunday’s visit of Motherwell, the Celtic manager said that he would continue talks with the Frenchman’s representatives in the hope of tying the 22-year-old down on a lucrative deal.

“We want to talk to Odsonne and his representatives.

“We want to keep him here for as long as we can and as long as he wants to be here.

“It was a real blow to lose him for Wednesday night’s game.

“He gave it a go on Tuesday but he just felt it was too sore. It was the same on Thursday.

“He’s feeling the thigh muscle and it’s a big loss for the way we want to play.”

French Eddy is currently contracted until 2022 but in order to receive the best possible fee for the France U21 International, they would need to sell him this summer or extend his deal. The former seems inconceivable as the club look to win an unprecedented 10IAR.

“I don’t get involved in any negotiations with agents or on the contract side of things.

“We make recommendations about players we want to keep and those who deserve new contracts.

“Negotiations are ongoing as we speak.”

Whilst Edouard, who misses Sunday’s game, is happy at the club, his agent is looking to hold crunch talks in order to secure the best possible deal for the £30m-rated attacker.

With 28 goals last season, it is no surprise that there is interest in Edouard but the Scottish Champions need to keep him around due to the qualities that he has, goals he brings and contribution to his teammates.
