Celtic to reward Abada and Giakoumakis with contract extensions

Celtic are in talks with representatives of both Liel Abada and Giorgios Giakoumakis with the club keen to offer both players increased terms as a reward for their outstanding contributions since arriving at Celtic last year.

Both players are contracted to the club until summer 2026 and it is being reported by Sky Sports that the new deal will add another year onto that keeping the players at Celtic until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The pair have 16 goals between them this season and last year Giakoumakis finished joint top scorer in the Scottish Premiership despite missing most of the early part of the season through injury. Meanwhile Abada hit the ground running at Celtic and was one of the players Ange Postecoglou had to throw in at the deep end even though the young Israeli star really should have been allowed some time to settle into life in a new country.

He didn’t seem to let that worry him and developed a very useful habit of coming in off the right wing to snatch some crucial goals for Celtic, including of course that memorable third goal against theRangers at the start of February.

And just before that game it should be remembered that Abada scored a brilliant last minute winner against Dundee United to set Celtic up for the Glasgow Derby where a win would take Celtic to the top of the league, looking down on theRangers and the adapting of the Carpenters song that is causing some annoyance in certain quarters across the city.

Two new five years deals for Giakoumakis and Abada would make sense and allow Celtic the assurance that our top players aren’t going to be sold unless the price and the timing suits Ange Postecoglou.

And the new deal might put a smile back on the face of the Greek striker after his penalty woes against Livingston continued at the weekend! If we get one against Real Madrid tomorrow night expect Josip Juranovic to step up and not big GG.

Makes sense, have friendly discussions with their reps, offer some more money year on year plus increased bonuses and ask for a one year extension to their contracts. When they leave,we’ll get plenty bucks in return with sell on clauses included.Happy players, always nice to have around.
