Celtic told to consider Dundee full-back alternative to Owen Beck

Owen Beck was the subject of a transfer interest from Celtic in January before Jurgen Klopp decided to play the youngster, meaning he was unable to make the switch to Paradise. The Welshman returned to Dundee on a deal until the end of the season but has had to compete with Owen Dodgson for his place in the Dundee team.

The on-loan Burnley full-back has also impressed and his performance against Celtic on Sunday has attracted praise. Former Hibs striker Tam McManus has suggested that Celtic consider signing the Burnley full-back instead of Beck.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, McManus said that Brendan Rodgers’ side should consider the 21-year-old as they look to strengthen in the left-back position this summer.

“I like the left-back, Dodgson. I think he’s on loan from Burnley.

“He’s been excellent, I think Celtic and Rangers should be looking at him. The two games I’ve seen him, against both Celtic and Rangers, I thought he was really really good.”

Celtic have not resumed talks with Greg Taylor, who has a season left on his deal with the Scottish Champions. Taylor, who will likely be in Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2024, and the club have paused talks until the end of the season as they look to win a league title and Scottish Cup in the final weeks of the campaign.

Brendan Rodgers said in February after the transfer window slammed shut that the club had been looking to strengthen in the full-back position. Beck is currently recovering from an injury, meaning that Dodgson is enjoying playing under Tony Docherty at Dundee.
