Celtic told to pay £12.5m for goalkeeper as opening bid rejected

Celtic have had their opening bid Ugurcan Cakir rejected by Trabzonspor but the club will not stand in the goalkeeper’s way should he wish to seal a move to the Scottish Champions. A report from Turkey over the weekend said that Michael Nicholson had been in touch with the Turkish outfit over the 28-year-old, making a £7.5m offer.

However, according to Kontraspor, Trabzonspor are willing to do a deal but will want £12.5m for their captain in order to part ways.

Celtic requested that the player’s representatives travel to Glasgow to discuss a move if the bid was favourable to the Turkish club, who currently sit third in the top division. It was also stated in the initial report that Rodgers is keen to talk about a move with the player over Zoom as he looks to bring in a new first choice keeper. Talks are expected to take place so it remains to be seen whether this is an upfront fee that Trabzonspor are after or an overall fee that may include significant add-ons.

Çakir has made 27 appearances for his country and would be an excellent acquisition by the club if they were to succeed in bringing him into the club.
